Frankly, Mr. Shankly, this position I’ve held
It pays my way, and it corrodes my soul
I want to leave, you will not miss me
I want to go down in musical history

Nostalgy

I noticed that I rarely go to venues these days. Maybe it’s laziness or the hatred of crowds. Not sure. Anyways, thought I’d list some of the best shows I’ve seen through out… here goes, in no particular order.

The Primus

This was on the first festival I’ve ever been to (Provinssirock), I remember just going to the gig because my friend said they were good. I had heard ‘Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver’ because it was sort of a hit at the time and wasn’t particulary hopeful - but oh my fucking god. They blew me away. It was and still is absolutely one of the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen. God bless the bass guitar and the people who know how to use it.

Spiritualized

My most vivid memory of our trip to Roskilde in 2002. I’ve always loved the band, never knew I’d have a chance to see them live. Very much under the influence of local herbs but still. Good times.

Primal Scream

Same thing here. Roskilde festival and oh my… it was brilliant even though Bobby seemed pissed off and didn’t seem like he really wanted to be there - but hey… that’s Bobby. He is like that - and that’s what I like.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion

Not much to say here. They rocked. They played over time until the festival arrangers pulled the plug on them.

Nine Inch Nails

A dream come true. Almost cried through out ‘hurt’ like any good NIN fan would.

Morrissey

It was hot as hell in Turku, Finland - and so was Morrissey in his wicked way. Saying this as a pretty heterosexual man… I love him and what he stands for. He ripped his shirt in the end of the show. My friend got a piece of that and gave it to me. It’s my life saving - maybe it’ll be worth something on the Ebay. Hah. Maybe not. Some men are bigger than others.

There are maybe more to mention but these are the one’s that truly stay with me until my brain is totally fried or dead.

The Smiths - In the Studio (BBC Whistle Test 1985)

The Smiths - Bigmouth Strikes Again

Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking
When I said I’d like to
Smash every tooth in your head

Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking
When I said by rights you should be
Bludgeoned in your bed

And now I know how Joan of Arc felt
Now I know how Joan of Arc felt
As the flames rose to her Roman nose
And her Walkman started to melt

Bigmouth, bigmouth
Bigmouth strikes again
And I’ve got no right to take my place
With the human race

And now I know how Joan of Arc felt
Now I know of Joan of Arc felt
As the flames rose to her Roman nose
And her hearing aid started to melt

Bigmouth, bigmouth
Bigmouth strikes again
And I’ve got no right to take my place
With the human race
